The Better Filter: Watts Premier 3-Stage vs. 4-Stage Water Filtration System
A great water softener with carbon filter would be generally composed of a standard water filter plus a filtration system that can be positioned either before or after the softener unit. With the poor water quality in our town, a water filter with carbon is a real necessity.
As you might have guessed, we have used a lot of different filtration systems over the years. Some filter units got obsolete over time so sometimes we’ve had to replace the entire filter system. In my search for the best softeners with carbon filters for our home, I came up with some considerations that have become a sort of a standard for our home.
The unit and any consumables for it (filters) should be reasonably priced. Given what we’ve gone through, we’ve had to factor in the possibility that these things might break down earlier than expected, especially if the water quality turns out for the worse. Since carbon filters get replaced on a regular basis, replacement carbon filters must be affordable enough. Since filtration system consumables tend to be brand-specific, a reasonably priced installation kit may be negated by pricey replacement filters or cheap but hard-to-find consumables.
Given those considerations, I think two of the best products I’ve found are the Watts Premier RO-Pure 4-Stage Reverse Osmosis System and the Watts Premier 531130 Filter-Pure UF-3 3-Stage Water Filtration System. You may say that I have a bit of a bias toward the Watts brand but it has actually the most reliable one that our family has used.
This 4-stage reverse osmosis filtration system from Watts is a bit more expensive, with almost twice the price of the Premier 531130 filter system. However, it should also be noted that the carbon filter for this unit is a lot more affordable by comparison.
This filter system produces pure quality water. Well, they’re basically the same brand so we should expect the same quality output.
This unit is very easy to install. It is very well-designed, with the fittings even better than other leading brands.
This unit is very durable. There are water filter reviews that lauds this unit for its durability. Some owners have used Watts filter systems for years.
As stated earlier, this three stage water filter system is a lot cheaper compared to the four stage Watts model.
This unit is equipped with a push button assembly, which makes it very easy to install. Both of these filter systems are pretty easy to install anyway.
No question about the quality of the water from either unit. They both taste very well.
I recommend the Watts Premier RO-Pure 4-Stage Reverse Osmosis System as the best water softener with carbon filter. Even though this unit’s purchase price is a little higher, the cost of the filters will be a considerable factor over time.
